Montana Dental Association's Executive Director
David Hemion

David HemionThe Board of Directors has appointed David Hemion as the Montana Dental Association’s executive director. This concludes a search process that began following the death in April of Mary McCue, MDA’s longtime executive director and lobbyist. Mr. Hemion  assumes the executive director position in September.

MDA President, Dr. Rob Neill stated, “I am excited about what Dave is going to bring to the MDA. His expertise and knowledge in dental association management and his legislative skills are unsurpassed. I think he will not only provide a steady hand at the helm, but will also increase the speed at which the MDA moves to an even more prestigious and relevant organization representing the dentists of Montana.”

Mr. Hemion served as MDA executive director from 1996 to 2000. He resigned to take the position of assistant executive director with the Washington State Dental Association, where he was responsible for shaping WSDA’s legislative and public policy initiatives, among other matters.

“I’m honored to follow Mary as executive director,” Mr. Hemion said. “She was a great friend and mentor and her contributions to MDA were recognized by dentists and her peers nationally.

“I enjoy working with the dentists who are the heart of this association and I’m fortunate to have that opportunity again. I look forward to applying the experience and lessons I learned while in Washington. Many issues, such as challenges to dental workforce, are concerns in Montana as well and I look forward to helping to guide MDA through them.”

Prior to joining the MDA in 1996, Mr. Hemion was a lobbyist and an executive with business organizations in Montana and Texas. He earned his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Montana and holds a bachelor’s degree in radio-television-film from the University of Texas.

Mr. Hemion’s wife, Susan, is a psychiatric nurse practitioner at the behavioral health unit at St. Peter’s Hospital. They have two grown sons living in Washington.

“Returning to Montana was an easy decision for us,” Mr. Hemion said. “Having grown up in a military family that moved frequently, Montana is my adopted home.”
